Prof. Jan Philip Schulze

Professor for Lied

• Jan Philip Schulze graduated from the Musikhochschule in Munich and undertook further studies at the Tschaikowsky Conservatory in Moscow. 
• At the beginning of his performing career, he was awarded prizes at international competitions in Italy, Spain and South Africa.
• Jan Philip Schulze  was called to a Professorship for Lied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover and is internationally in demand as a master class teacher. 

Pianist Jan Philip Schulze has been successful as a soloist, chamber music partner and Lied accompanist, concertizing extensively all over Europe as well as in the Far East (Japan). Singers he has perofrmed with include Juliane Banse, Annette Dasch,  Rachel Harnisch, Dietrich Henschel, Jonas Kaufmann, Yves Savary, Robert Dean Smith and Violeta Urmana.  He has performed in renowned halls such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Théâtre de la Monnaie BrüsselWigmore Hall London, in Madrid, Paris, Vienna and Tokyo, at La Scala in Milan, as well as at the festivals in Lucerne, Salzburg, Edinburgh, Munich and Schwarzenberg.

He is also well-known for his interpretations of contemporary music having played many premiere performances. Critics praised his recording of Hans Werner Henze’s piano works as a landmark interpretation. His recent debut with the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks with Iannis Xenakis’ Piano Concerto further documents his unusualcompetence in the music of our time.
