Programmes of Study
Universities and other higher education institutions in Germany will soon be offering almost exclusively the internationally recognised Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. As from the Winter Semester 2009/10 the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover (Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover – HMTMH) has introduced such degree courses across the board (except in Drama).
The introduction of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees does not mean any change in the content of the courses, or in the typical forms of tuition in individual tutorials and small groups.
The subject-matter of all first degree courses will be taken up in a variety of ways in postgraduate (Master’s degree) courses and supplemented there by interesting new possibilities, so that all students who obtain a Bachelor’s degree will be able to continue their studies as postgraduates at the HMTMH. Bachelor’s degree courses last eight semesters, or six semesters in the case of purely academic courses; Master’s degree courses last four semesters.
The “Diplom” courses are being phased out.
