Course content
Since the winter semester 2004/2005, the University of Music, Drama and Media Hannover (Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover - HMTMH) has offered a bachelor’s degree programme jointly with the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University, Hanover (Hanover University). This Joint Bachelor’s Degree programme embraces two academic (teaching) subjects (major and minor subject) and the field of professional studies, in which general qualifications (education, psychology and key skills) are taught. Two obligatory placements, arranged with the desired profession in mind, allow students to come into contact with their later occupational field at an early stage. Students begin with the major subject Music at HMTMH in the first year of study, working in particular on the musical basics. From the second year of study onwards the student enrols in parallel at Hanover University, or at HMTMH for the minor subject Media Management. The programme can be embarked upon only in the winter semester. For information on the subjects offered under this programme at Hanover University, please visit www.uni-hannover.de
On certain conditions, the degree entitles holders to continue with a Master’s Degree course (e.g. the joint Master’s Degree course of HMTMH and Hanover University for a higher secondary teaching qualification).
Scope and structure of the course
The course covers three areas: two academic/teaching subjects and the field of professional studies. According to the examination regulations, the two academic/teaching subjects are studied as a combination of one major and one minor subject (in a ratio of approximately 2:1). The professional studies field covers two areas: on the one hand education studies (education and psychology) and on the other hand key skills.
Skills taught during the course:
This joint Bachelor’s degree course focuses on the acquisition of artistic, academic and educational skills that are of fundamental importance in music teaching professions. Depending on the later career objectives, individual focuses will be set during the course, with the purpose of enhancing particular skills that qualify the student for the profession concerned.
