The course in Musical Performance and Education at the HMTMH affords students the opportunity to undertake intensive study of their performance subjects and at the same time academically sound and practical teacher training which takes place in cooperation with music schools, schools, children’s day centres and comparable institutions. The broad range of subsidiary subjects available enables students to develop an individual profile and to acquire additional artistic and academic qualifications.
The Musical Performance and Education course divides up into three study options. You can obtain information on the focus of each by clicking the option you are interested in.

Instrument Teaching (IT)
Elementary Music Education (EME)
Rhythmics (RHY)

1. Principal study subjects
   Pianoforte, harpsichord, organ, harp, accordion, guitar, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, recorder, percussion.
   

   For Elementary Music Education and Rhythmics: Voice may be chosen as a principal study subject.
   

2. Subsidiary study subjects
   No instrumental subsidiary subject can be taken with the following principal study subjects: accordion, harpsichord, organ, harp or pianoforte.
   Recorder, saxophone, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, viola da gamba, percussion or voice may be permitted as a subsidiary study subject on the basis of a well-founded application, and after an audition.

With guitar as principal study instrument: a melody instrument or pianoforte, percussion or voice (voice only on application and after an audition).

With recorder, saxophone, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass or percussion as principal study subject, the subsidiary instrumental subject is pianoforte.

For Elementary Music Education: Voice and/or pianoforte are compulsory subsidiary subjects where they have not already been chosen as the principal study subject.
