The HMTMH’s main building offers the entire infrastructure required for this, including large ensemble rooms, computers and a recording studio. A variety of ensembles, small and large, are constantly available.

3. Who is the course aimed at? / Requirements for admission
The Master’s degree course in JazzRockPop is addressed to graduates of first degree courses in JazzRockPop who have attained a final grade of at least 1.5 in their intended principal study subject, and who would like to develop their artistic profiles and their knowledge and abilities as solo instrumentalists and composers with a view to achieving a high level of artistic authenticity and relevance.

Programme learning outcomes

The Master's degree programme in Jazz Rock Pop prepares students specifically for their working life as freelance and employed musicians. It provides the necessary space to be able to develop freely on the instrument, especially within the artistic personality in an outstanding way. It is the ideal opportunity for graduates of all jazz-rock-pop bachelor's programmes (international and national) to hone their artistic personality. The programme aims at a large-scale artistic project as a Master's graduation concert, in which graduates present their own music, be it arrangements or original compositions, in a public concert.

The central key competence of the degree programme is the development of an independent artistic personality that is both physically and mentally able to cope with the diverse demands of the professional field. This includes outstanding knowledge and skills in the main instrumental subject, a convincing presence as an artist on stage and in the studio, excellent knowledge in the areas of composition and arrangement as well as mastery of a wide stylistic range in various jazz/rock/pop genres. After completing the programme, graduates are qualified to work in various ensemble contexts (duo, trio, jazz ensemble, big band, choir, film music orchestra) both as artists and composers. The degree programme prepares graduates for a working life in changing professional fields as well as for further specialisation and in-depth study as part of their professional career.

By obtaining a Master's degree, graduates also acquire the entry-level qualification available in many federal states for a full-time position as an employed teacher in the university service/artistic staff member in the university service, etc.

As part of regular musical interaction with their fellow students, the graduates have tried out the standard repertoire of jazz rock pop and, above all, their own compositions. Graduates are able to reflect on their skills in a civil society context and actively contribute to society in an artistic or educational capacity. They also have knowledge of music theory and music analysis and a trained ear. They also have relevant knowledge of big band conducting, studio recording and in-depth skills in composing and arranging.
