Prof. Matthias Remus

Professor for Acting and Stage Direction

▪ born 1953 in Bremen / Vegesack
▪ attended school in Hannover, finishing his Abitur in 1973
▪ Prof. Remus was one of the first graduates of the programme for Stage Directors initiated by Prof. August Everding und Prof. Götz Friedrich at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Hamburg.

▪ Regiepraktika at the opera houses in Hamburg, München, and Mannheim
▪ Completed his Diploma in 1978
▪ 1978 - 1981 Dramatic advisor and stage director at the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg
▪ 1981 - 1992 Spielleiter and producer at the Deutschen Oper Berlin, assistant to Götz Friedrich, Johannes Schaf, Hans Neuenfels, John Dew, Herbert Wernicke, Achim Freyer, Hans Hollmann and others.
▪ Internationally in demand as producer and stage director, for example in Poland (Krakau, Danzig, Breslau, Lodz und Bromberg)
▪ Lecturer at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin
▪ Author of a biography of Mozart published in 1991 by the Parkland-Verlag
▪ 1992 -  he was called to assume a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover.
▪ In 1995 he was named to the jury of the Götz-Friedrich-Stiftung.
