According to Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz, the University Council should include five people from business, science and culture or other socially relevant areas who are familiar with the university system. In addition, there is a representative of the responsible Ministry and a member of the university elected by the Senate. The Council's tasks include advising the Presidential Board and the Senate of the university and commenting on development and business plans. The University Council is also involved in the nomination or appointment of members of the Presidential Board.
