The Minister for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony (MWK) has temporarily appointed Prof. Dr Hans Jürgen Prömel to head the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (HMTMH) as Commissioner on behalf of the Ministry with effect from 1 July 2024. In this capacity he serves as Acting President.

Born in Bienen, North Rhine-Westphalia, in 1953, Hans Jürgen Prömel completed his doctorate in mathematics at Bielefeld University in 1982. He worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of California Los Angeles and as a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Bonn and at Humboldt University in Berlin, where he was also responsible for research as a full-time Vice President for seven years. From 2007 to 2019, he was President of the Technical University of Darmstadt. From 2021 to March 2024, he was the Founding President of the Technical University of Nuremberg which is currently being established. In addition, Prömel is a member of numerous national and international committees and organisations.
