Re-Registration + Semester Fee

By re-registering, you are declaring that you wish to continue your studies at HMTMH in the coming semester. Re-registration is completed solely by paying the semester fee.

Registration is considered complete once the semester tuition has been paid in full and on time.

The re-registration period for the summer semester ends annually on February 1. The re-registration period for the winter semester ends annually on June 30.

A late re-registration will incur an administrative fee of 50 euros.
If you do not re-register in time, you will be expelled from the university in accordance with the provisions of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act.

Semester fee for the winter semester 2026/27

  • for students at Neues Haus: 413 Euro
  • for students at Expo Plaza: 445 Euro

The semester fee is made up of different components

  • AStA (including theater flat rate and bicycle bonus / bicycle repair shops): 13,20 €
  • Studentenwerk Hannover: 98,00 € (students at Neues Haus), 130 € (students at Expo Plaza)
  • Administrative costs: 75,00 €
  • Nationwide Semester Ticket: 226,80 €

Additional fees, in addition to the total amount

  • Re-registration fee for students who have reached the age of 60: 800,00 €
  • long-term student fee, where applicable*: 500,00 €

Study Credit

All students are eligible to study for a certain period of time without having to pay tuition fees. This period is referred to as „study credit“ („Studienguthaben“) and consists of the standard period of study plus six additional grace semesters.

The study credit includes all periods of study at all public universities in Germany. It is not used up when the student is on leave of absence.

Students who have used up their study credit must pay a long-term study fee of 500 euros per semester due to their increased use of the state-funded university infrastructure.

Under certain conditions, you may apply for an exemption from long-term tuition fees. For advice on your specific situation, please contact the Office of Student Registration.

Validation of the HMTMH-Card

Once you have paid your semester fees in time, you can validate your HMTMH-Card for the following semester, thereby extending its validity. You can validate your card at the Neues Haus 1 (Reception) and Expo Plaza 12 (IJK Examinations Office) locations.
